maternity style for summer

Being my second summer pregnant, I’ve found a style that works for my growing belly and the south Georgia heat. Since it isn’t always easy to dress a bump, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite go-tos that are all comfortable, affordable, and (I find) stylish.

the Pants

I’ve found GAP has the best options for me when it comes to maternity pants. I love their inset panels that make room for growing. Although they are a bit pricey, GAP is wonderful at emailing out discounts and sales. I purchased two pair (in denim and white) while pregnant with Joy Belle and wore them often. And they’ve already made an appearance this pregnancy.

the Dress

While pregnant the first go-round, I snagged a few, simple dresses from Old Navy and Gap – inexpensive, fun, and best of all, breathable! Generally I’m a sucker for stripes, which is why I was originally drawn to this navy and white stripe, linen dress. Not only is it super comfortable, the linen material gave lots of extra room for baby. (I purchased one size up from my “pre-baby” size and wore it all summer and post-baby.) Once I find something I love, especially something so comfy, I try to snag it in several prints and colors. If you peeked into my closet, you’d find several soft, simple dresses – a linen, a pattern or two, and of course, a little black for the days/nights I need to dress-up a bit. Recently, I found this linen stripe dress at The Flossy Peach. I’m planning to wear it on Easter Sunday and hopefully throughout the rest of this pregnancy.

the T-shirt

My day-to-day go-to! There is just nothing more comfortable to chase a toddler around in than a t-shirt. Target has this simple tee in a variety of colors and the slouchy design is ideal for a growing bump. I could live in these shirts!

the Cover-up

Summer in south Georgia is H O T, so I try to spend as much of my time as I can on the boat, beside the pool, or if I’m lucky, on the beach. These two cover-ups are ideal for shading a pregnant belly! I have two similar to those pictured and wear them often. (Both pictured are on sale right now at Old Navy!)

the Sunnies

My absolute favorite sunnies are the Ray-ban Clubmasters or any classic tortoise shades. But there is something about summer that makes me want to change them out to style up (or down) and outfit. I found these rubber sunnies at Target and instantly thought they’d be perfect for tossing in a beach bag or tote. Unbreakable = toddler safe! And how fun are these green clubmasters? I love the pop of color!

the Sandals

I’m all about a neutral. I love a sandal that can be dressed up, but is still perfect for pool and beach days. Steve Madden has two pair of neutral sandals, the Bestii and the Agathist, that I can’t get over. But summer wouldn’t be summer without a good pair of metallic sandals. I absolutely love the look of these slip-ons by Birkenstock, but this pair is a little better for the budget.

the Shorts

Probably the most worn, of everything listed above, are these maternity shorts by GAP. I purchased them the summer I was expecting Joy Belle, in both denim and white. Not only are they super comfortable pregnant, they are even more comfortable post-baby, when nothing else quite fits. I distinctly remember Justin asking me months after Joy Belle was born, if I would ever stop wearing those shorts. Seriously, the best purchase!
