As a mom of three and a clean beauty advocate for over a decade, I’ve read a lot of ingredient labels. Like, a lot. But even with my experience, there are still moments when I need a second set of eyes, or in this case, a trusted source to help me evaluate a product’s safety.
That’s why I use the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep® database when researching products for myself and my family.
What is the EWG Database?
EWG’s Skin Deep® database is an independent resource that ranks personal care products and cosmetic ingredients on a scale from 1 (lowest hazard) to 10 (highest hazard) based on published scientific literature and toxicity data. It’s an incredible tool for families who care about the what and why behind what we’re putting on our bodies.
When I began switching to safer products, EWG was one of my go-to tools—and still is.
Why It Matters
- Transparency: It allows us to look beyond marketing claims and buzzwords like “natural,” “clean,” “non-toxic,” or “green.”
- Empowerment: You can look up individual ingredients or full products to see how they may impact your health.
- Trust: EWG isn’t funded by beauty brands. Their mission is public health, not profit.
For anyone on a holistic or low-tox journey, this is the kind of clarity and confidence we deserve.
Restore’s EWG Score Breakdown
Restore was created with a deep commitment to safe, smart, and intentional beauty. That’s why I’m proud to share how our ingredients stack up on the EWG scale. While these products haven’t yet been officially verified by EWG, we’ve individually evaluated every single ingredient we use and have calculated the average EWG rating per product.

Restore Ingredient Average:
- Majority Score Range: 1–2 (low hazard)
- Products Average: 1.44 across all current SKUs
- No ingredients flagged for cancer, reproductive toxicity, or hormone disruption
In fact, most of the ingredients in Restore formulas rank as “low hazard”, meaning they’re considered safe for use—even for sensitive skin types, pregnant women, and little ones who may steal a kiss or two from mama.
What This Means for You
If you’ve ever wondered if your lip balm, foundation, or moisturizer is truly safe… you’re not alone. I’ve been there. But that’s the beauty of doing the work—and sharing it. You don’t have to guess. You don’t have to read every label alone.
You can trust:
- The Restore products in your makeup bag
- The ingredients we’ve vetted and tested
- The resources like EWG that help us stay informed
Because beauty shouldn’t be complicated
Our skin absorbs much of what we put on it. That’s why I’m proud to share and use products that are thoughtfully formulated, free from questionable chemicals, and transparent and trustworthy. Whether you’re new to clean beauty or deep into your holistic living journey, know this: the EWG database is a tool. Want to look up an ingredient for yourself? Visit: ewg.org/skindeep
